Faith in action. Look over and prayefully consider this list of worthy service projects and make contact with the lead person of the project(s) for which you are interested and feel led. 

BAKERY BAGS & COOKIES FOR THE COMMUNITY      (Walhalla Fire & Police Departments, Hospice, Detention Center, EMS/Andera Stroud & Jeri Klaren/5/4 and 5/5-9:30am-12:00pm)    Prepare bakery bags and deliver to our community workers. Bagging cookies prepared by volunteers for project locations and workers

BUILDING A WHEELCHAIR RAMP (Seneca location/Dave Lewis & Jan Long/9:30am-completion/ adults with construction skills). Constructing a wheelchair ramp for a handicapped person in need.

CANNED GOOD COLLECTION      JO I N  H A N D S  D A Y Project        (Area neighborhoods/Stephanie White/9:30am-12:30pm/adults & youth of all ages). Distributing collection bags on 4/29 to an area neighborhood .Collecting canned goods on 5/5 and   delivering to the Golden Corner Food Ministry.       

  FLOWERS FOR THE NURSING HOME                J O I N  H A N D S  D A Y Project     (St. John’s/Betty Mantell & Ann Henry/Assembly 5/4/ Delivery 5/5 9:30am-12:00pm/ adults & children with adult supervision).  Delivering flowers to an area Nursing Home, Seniors & Shut-ins.    

HOME REPAIR, CLEAN-UP & YARD WORK             (Seneca location/Dave Lewis & Jan Long/9:30am-completion/adults & youth of all ages).  Interior home repair, yard clean-up and minor landscaping improvements

KNITTING FOR THE PREGNANCY CARE CENTER     (St. John’s/Barbara Wilson/9:30am-12:30pm/ adults with knitting or crocheting skills). Knitting assorted baby items for the Pregnancy Care Center

PRESCHOOL PLAYGROUND    (St. John’s Preschool/Mary Sprouse/9:30-until completion/adults). Refurbishing playground equipment and grounds clean-up.

QUARTERS AT THE LAUNDROMAT  (Laundromat locations in Walhalla, Seneca/Ann Brackett/9:30am-12:00pm/adults). Paying for washer & dryer time at area Laundromats. 

 

SEWING FOR UNITED WAY &              THE CANCER CENTER            (St. John’s/Dolly Johnson/9:30am-12:00pm/adults & older youth) Sewing simple children’s clothes for United Way and pillows for cancer patients. Basic sewing and assembly skills.

SUPPER AT OUR DAILY REST         JO I N  H A N D S  D A YProject    (Seneca/Patty Shepard, Mark & Libby McLean/2:30-6:30pm/Adults & older youth). Afternoon and early evening preparation and serving supper to Seneca homeless shelter.

USED BOOK COLLECTION     (Oconee Public Library/Sandy Yuda/9:30am-12:00pm/adults & older youth) Boxing used books, cd’s, dvd’s, puzzles for  the library. Funds from the sale of these books will go to the “READ TO ME” program sponsored by Friends of the Library. All items must be in good condition and  adhere to regulations.

PRAYER TEAM       (May 5th/ Jan Long/8:30am-5:30pm)                                              This project is designed for those who are not able to participate in a mission project on May 5th. The Prayer Team will support volunteers through prayer.

FEBRUARY 29th-MARCH 28th        LENTEN SUPPERS   (St. John’s/Joan Lewis/6pm Worship followed by Soup Supper). Soups prepared by various groups and committees. All proceeds donated to “Food for the Poor”. Sign-up at the Spiritual Opportunities table.

APRIL 14th       BLOOD DRIVE   (St. John’s/Judy Trad & Jean Norton/adults able to donate blood) Blood Drive run by Blood Connection. All donations credited to St. John’s. Sign-up for a donation time at the Spiritual Opportunities table.

APRIL 21st    WAGAPALOOZA DOG WASH   (St. John’s/Cathy Plowden & LKC/9am-1pm/Adults & Youth). Doggie Wash to benefit the Humane Society. Collection of  towels, cash donations accepted for the humane society.

APRIL 28th      ISSAQUEENA’S BIKE RIDE         (St. John’s/Tina Barrett & Frieda Cobb) /6:30am-5:00pm/20 adults in 3 hour shifts- 6:30-9:30, 9:30-12:30, 12:30-3:30, 3:30-5:00.   Feed the bike riders as they leave for and return from  Issaqueena’s Last Ride. Show them true St. John’s hospitality.

* Prayer and Devotions will be held on Saturday morning, May 5th, 8:30am at St. John’s. All are encouraged to attend.                                         

* An Ice Cream Social will be held in the fellowship hall on Sunday, May 6th at 6:00pm. This will be an opportunity for us to share our experiences.
